Safety Berry Coming in For VisitBy Lance Epstein
According Yahoo Sports via an NFL source is reporting that the University of Tennessee top-ranked safety among most draft pundits, Eric Berry has scheduled visits with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and your Philadelphia Eagles.
Berry is expected to go in the top 10 of the 2010 NFL Draft, which makes it very interesting that the Eagles are working him out. Scouts even begun comparing his style and play to current Baltimore Ravens great Ed Reed since he ran 4.4 in the 40-yard dash and showed unique playmaking skills.
May be the Eagles are just doing their due diligence. However, this is the second player the Eagles are working out or interviewing that is projected to be in the top 10. The other player was Gerald McCoy, the defensive tackle out of Oklahoma, who is expected to go in the top three.
With McNabb rumors flying, the Eagles might be banking on moving up in the draft or trading for a top 10 pick to be able to get Berry. The Eagles could use Berry's skills since last year Quinton Demps, Macho Harris failed to replace the future Hall of Famer, Brian Dawkins at free safety.
While the Eagles signed Marlin Jackson to play safety, he might not be ready at the beginning of the season or ever since he is coming off his second knee surgery in the last two years.
In college, Berry was a consensus All-American selection and won the Jim Thrope award as the country's top defensive back. During Berry's three years as a Volunteer, he recorded 14 interceptions and recorded 241 tackles.
If the Eagles manage to somehow get Berry, he will make the fans forget and forgive a front office let their beloved icon Brian Dawkins go.
